Abstract:Thermoplastic composites (TPCs) have been widely applied to commercial aircrafts and helicopters because of their good toughness, heat resistance, fatigue strength, chemical resistance and recycling for recent years. With regard to aircraft engines, there is an even more urgent demand for high performance materials to achieve higher thrustweight ratio. Thus, TPCs are the ideal materials to manufacture aero-engine nacelles. This article introduces foreign developments on prepreg research and advanced manufacturing process of high performance TPCs, as well as, whose applications on aircraft engine nacelles. Meanwhile, domestic developments have also been contrasted in thermoplastic resin properties, prepreg preparation and manufacturing process of TPCs.
