Abstract Material information(MI) is very useful for supporting design decision-making. In deep analysisof the product and process design decision-making needs of material information, material information requiremen tframework for supporting design decision is built, and on this basis, the XML-based representation of three layers of MI model is proposed, that is, the underlying layer, logical layer, and application layer. Finally, from the application layer, decision-supported manufacturing quality information feature model is built based on IDEF0.
