Abstract The heat treatment process of solution aging and dual annealing of TiBw /TA15 composite after rolling in the (α+β) region was studied. During the solution treatment in (α+β) region, as the solution temperature increases, the primary α phase content decreases, the spherical secondary α phase content in the β transition tissue decreases, and the size increases. The secondary αs phase was separated with small needle α, and the microhardness value increases with the consolidation temperature in the (α+β) region. After solution treatment in the β region, composite matrix tissue is basketlike structure, β grain and α lath are small, and the overall microhardness of the composite material is relatively high. Solution time has little effect on the microstructure and hardness of composite materials. The size change of secondary α lath in the 650–750℃ temperature range, and the microhardness decreases slightly with the roughening of the lath. The dual annealing process of 990℃/0.5h/AC+900℃/1h/AC and 1100℃/0.5h/AC+900℃/1h/AC can significantly refine the α lath and improve the microhardness of the composite materials. TiB whiskers are stable phase during heat treatment, and the change of heat treatment process will not cause obvious changes in TiB whiskers. Changes of primary α phase content, secondary α phase size, β grain size and α lath size are the key factors affecting the microhardness of composite materials.
