Abstract With the characteristics of real-time synchronization, loyal mapping and high-fidelity, digital twin is considered as an important means to realize the interconnection between the physical and information world. In the present work, the state of art and applications of digital twin theory are discussed in detail. Additionally, the paper analyses the progress on digital twin modelling and application in the micro milling of titanium alloy parts, in terms of micro milling technique process, cutting tool status, milling quality and microscale machining equipment. Finally, the essential issues that should be solved in the study of micro milling digital twin modeling, are presented according to the analysis of digital twin application. The establishment of a digital twin simulation model integrating machine, cutting tool and workpiece has important theoretical significance and practical value, which is able to expand application scope of digital twin, improve the efficiency of micro milling, and promote the development of intelligent manufacturing technology.
