Abstract With the rapid development of marine gas turbines, the serve conditions of components in hottest parts are increasingly harsh. However, the existing thermal barrier coatings have actually fallen into the bottleneck of improving the multi-medium thermal corrosion resistance and high-temperature thermo-mechanical coupling stability, which can not fully meet the more stringent protection requirements of the heated end components for the new generation marine gas turbines. In this paper, the research status on the environmental suitability improvement of ceramic-based materials used in thermal barrier coatings under the marine atmospheric environment is summarized. The service condition characteristics of thermal barrier coatings in marine gas turbine are analyzed. In addition, the studies on the yttrium oxide partially stabilized zirconia (YSZ) materials strengthened by rare earth ion doping modification and fiber toughening, as well as various novel ceramicbased materials for thermal barrier coatings in improving thermal cycle life and corrosion resistance are summarized. Finally, the development trend of ceramic-based materials for thermal barrier coatings of marine gas turbines in the future is predicted.
