Abstract:Spline transmission is simple, reliable and its specific power is high, so that its status in the aircraft is irreplaceable.
Spline has some characteristics such as high rotating speed, large transmission torque, light weight and harsh
working environment, some splines even can’t achieve lubrication and cooling. In addition, the support system of external
spline and the one of internal spline are isolated with each other. All these factors lead to the misalignment of spline connection
and the problems of lubrication and wear. From the 1950s, the research on the design of spline, lubrication and
wear, experiment, troubleshooting and maintenance has been carried out continuously by aeronautically developed countries,
forming systematical methods of design, experiment, operation and maintenance. However, China do few research on
spline, especially on aviation spline, unable to meet the demand of the aviation sector on the drive components. The spline
is often regarded as subsidiary components and common connecting parts in China, attracting less attention. This paper
summarizes the research progress of decades of domestic and international aviation spline. Studies of aviation spline on
failure, lubrication, vibration, wear, misalignment, rotor dynamics and experiment are analyzed and summarized, development
trend of aviation spline research is also discussed. This paper hopes to provide a reference for solving the problems of
misalignment, lubrication and wear problems faced in domestic aviation spline.
