Abstract Aiming at the requirements of manufacturing resources cloudification in the cloud manufacturing environment, a cloud-edge collaborative architecture for 3D printing based on digital twin was proposed. The architecture includes the cloud, the edge and the device. By integrating 3D printer with the internet of things (IoT) module, bidirectional data transmission between the device and the edge was realized. To solve the lack of network reliability and privacy security brought about by traditional cloudification, time-sensitive and privacy-sensitive services were deployed at the edge, realizing the local extension of cloud services. The key technologies including 3D printer digital twin information model, digital twin-driven 3D printer real-time monitoring and control, and 3D printer cloud-edge collaborative manufacturing were described. The feasibility of the solution is verified in a case study, which provides a referenceable solution for the cloudification of other manufacturing equipment in subsequent cloud manufacturing.
