Abstract Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) provides a new method for large titanium alloy components due to its low cost and short production cycle. In the present paper, the WAAM technologies was introduced briefly. Then the research progress in structure, tensile properties and fatigue crack growth of WAAMed Ti–6Al–4V was reviewed. The effects of constitutional cooling regulation (adding heterogeneous nucleation, controlling deposition parameters etc.), plastic deformation and heat treatment on structure and tensile properties was summarized. The effects of microstructure, fatigue crack growth path and residual stress on the behavior of fatigue crack growth was analyzed. Finally, the challenges of WAAMed Ti–6Al–4V were explained.
