Abstract The latest research progress of surface modification technology for improving the fatigue properties of titanium
alloys is introduced. This paper sums up the processing ability and mechanism of different processing methods for
titanium alloy, such as shot peening, laser shock peening, extrusion or expansion, rolling or roller burnishing, ion implantation
and barrel finishing. The residual stress level and fatigue performance of the machined parts are described.
