Abstract:Nb and Nb-based alloys are important high temperature structural materials because of their high melting point, corrosion resistance, and high temperature strength. However, poor high temperature oxidation resistance restricts their application. The present status of research on high temperature oxidation resistant silicon coatings of Nb-based alloys is reviewed in this paper, and the mechanism of silicide coatings manufacture and their corresponding high temperature oxidation resistance properties are expatiated. Existing problems are analyzed and possible solutions are suggested.
