Review of Material and Structure for Morphing Aircraft Skin

The most important technical characteristic of morphing aircraft is that the wings remain smooth, continuous
and seamless during deformation. Morphing skin technology is the key to ensure this technical characteristic. In present
paper, the current situation and future trends of morphing skin materials and structures are summarized in detail in the form
of deformation and chronology. The stiff skin like fish skin was used for morphing skin in the early stage of morphing aircraft
and the composite structure is designed to have adequate elongation strain in the current studies. In a word, the composite
structure tends to show more potential to be as morphing skins.
