Abstract:Superalloy and titanium alloy, due to their superior performance, are widely used in aerospace field. But
because of its high temperature strength, poor thermal conductivity, serious work hardening phenomenon and severe tool
wear during the machining processing, the processed surface quality is low. Titanium alloy has small plastic and strong activity
which is easy to be oxidized or produces hydrogen brittleness; It is hard to be machined since its serious work-hardening
and sticking cutters during machining. Electrical discharge machining (EDM), relying on high temperature generated
by spark discharge to remove materials, the tool electrode and workpiece do not contact, processing is not limited by the
mechanical properties of materials, so it has important significance in the processing for superalloy and titanium alloy. The
latest progress of superalloy and titanium alloy machined by EDM is reviewed in six aspects, including EDM contour machining,
EDM wire-cutting, Micro-EDM, EDM milling, EDM surface strengthening, and other EDM processing techniques
and main research achievements are introduced.
