State-of-the-Arts in 3D Free Bending Technology and the Future Application in Aviation Manufacture

Abstract:Three dimensional free form bending technology was recognized as an important technical innovation in
the field of plastic forming. 3D free bending system of complex components can realize high precision and non-die forming
of pipe, section bar and wire rod under different bending radii, which has formed a huge challenge to the traditional
bending technology of metal components. This article systematically introduces the basic principle of free form bending
technology, the technical advantages of three-axis, five-axis and six-axis free bending system, key process parameters and
forming defects, research progresses of related technology and equipment and the application prospect of this technology in
the manufacture field of hollow complex bending component is given.
